5 Habits to Start to be More Productive in 2022

Happy New Year, Lions! 2021 was a wild ride for a lot of us, and with the new semester upon us, it’s time to start thinking about some new habits to help us keep up to date on schoolwork, work more efficiently, and most importantly, do the things we love instead of always being stressed about homework.

1. Write a to-do list!

I find that when I write down my tasks for the day, it’s easier to not get super overwhelmed. When you look at everything you need to get done on one sheet of paper, it doesn’t look too bad. Plus, checking stuff off when you’re done is so satisfying!

2. Give yourself healthy breaks.

While working is important, you’re just going to burn yourself out if you work for hours without a break. Try setting a timer and give yourself a break after around an hour. I personally use a 1/.5 ratio, after working for one hour you get a 30-minute break, after working for two hours you get a one-hour break, etc.

3. Make a timeline.

Let’s say you have a week to turn in five different assignments – one for each class. During this week, dedicate one day to working on each assignment at home, or during your lunch hour, or even in the morning in the library. This way, you don’t procrastinate doing your assignments until the last second, or you don’t overload yourself with too much work on one day.

4. Wake up earlier!

This one is one everyone can find hard, but there are ways to make it a little easier, like picking out an outfit for the next day to get you excited about going to school or drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up to help energize you. This way, by the time you get to school, you’re far more awake and ready to learn.

5. Make yourself a study playlist!

Listening to good music can really help when it comes to focusing on your work. Just make sure you don’t pick out music that’s too distracting; you can’t work when you’re singing along! Mellow songs or instrumental covers of your favorite songs can ensure there’s no awkward silence, while also not disturbing your focus. Not to mention, if you’re in a busier area, like a loud classroom or the cafeteria, it can block out the distracting noises and let you focus on what needs to get done.

I hope everyone has a happy and productive 2022!
