The Mane is a new addition to the many clubs that Leo Hayes offers; it aims to give students who are passionate about writing an opportunity to expand on their skills as a writer while sharing important information with their community. The club was started as a senior project run by a grade twelve student within our school, Celia Fournier, who hopes to give the students at Leo Hayes High School a way to express themselves through this news site.
When asked about why she started The Mane, Celia said this “There are many different teams for students who enjoy sports, and many different classes for students who enjoy math or science, but there are very few – if any – opportunities for students who like writing. With The Mane, I am able to make sure there are more chances for lions to do the things they love. This club has, I hope, given students the chance to find a new way to express themselves, to practice writing and to have their voices heard.” She believes that by making individual students feel seen, our entire school community will be strengthened as a result.
As for the future of the club, Celia said this “As of now, The Mane is currently scheduled to continue for only the semester, as it is a class project. But if it is a success, and well received, there is a chance The Mane could continue next semester as well.”
We are still looking for writers and photographers! If you are interested in joining, The Mane meets on Mondays at lunch in Mrs. Hansen’s room, A189.
